Title

The role of extracellular proteins in Proteus vulgaris adhesion to the surface of stainless steel

Abstract

The aim of the study was to define the role of extracellular proteins in the Proteus vulgaris adhesion process to the stainless steel. The dependences between the ATP level in the cells, changes in the profiles of extracellular proteins and the Proteus vulgaris adhesion to the abiotic surfaces were also defined. Cultures of bacteria were led on the optimal and reduced nutrients content. In all experimental variants the starvation conditions induced the bacterial cells adhesion to the surfaces of stainless steel. Stable colonization of the stainless steel surface occurred at the beginning of adhesion analysis. Upon nutrient – limited conditions Proteus vulgaris cells were at the higher energetic level which influenced on the visible reduction or even lack of extracellular proteins synthesis with molecular weights between 14,2×103 Da and 36×103 Da.
