Title

Macro- and microelements in some selected assortments of beer

Abstract

The first objective of the study was to compare the content of macro-elements: Mg, K, Al, Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu, Ni, Cr, Li, and V in the bottled and canned beers, produced by the selected beer manufacturers present in the market in Szczecin. The second objective was to asses the contents of macro- and microelements supplied to human organism with ingested beer. The chemical analysis was performed using an Inductively Coupled Plasma – Atomic Emission Spectrometry (ICP – AES). In the beers examined, the content of magnesium ranged from 92 to 220 mg/dmand the content of potassium: from 172 to 518 mg/dm3. Various concentrations of the individual microelements were found, however, their contents did not exceed 1.13 mg/dm3. The contents of selected metals did not differ from the values as reported in the Polish and foreign literature. The research as presented in this paper proves that beer can be a reach source of chromium and magnesium, but an insignificant source of other micro- and macro-elements.
