Title

The necessity of the regulation on trans fatty acid content in food

Abstract

The high intake of industrially produced trans fatty acids (IP-TFA) increases risk of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and many others diseases. It refers to trans fatty acids occurring while food processing, however in contrast, trans fats naturally occurring in food seems not to cause health problems. The largescale research, which has been undertaken in years 2004-2006, demonstrates that the food retailed in Poland contained relatively high amount of IP-TFA. As it was showed in some countries, lowering content of trans fatty acids can be achieved by law regulation (government intervention) or/and by education the consumers, which led to societal pressure render on industry, which cause supplying products with low level of trans fatty acids.
