Title

The occurrence of Bacillus cereus in raw milk

Abstract

The presence of Bacillus cereus (the total number of cells and the most probable number of spores – MPN) in raw milk from individual cows (108 samples) from 2 farms and in bulk tank milk (19 samples) from one of these farms has been determined. In milk from individual cows (20 samples) and in bulk tank milk (19 samples) from farm where the hygienic level of milking was high the total number of B. cereus and MPN of spores not exceeded 2 in 1 cm3. In milk from second farm (88 samples from individual cows) the total number of B. cereus was in the range 5.0-6.0·102 CFU and MPN of spores – in the range 0.018- > 1.6·102 in 1 cm3.
