Title

Residues of aflatoxin M1 in Polish milk powder and infant formulae

Abstract

Samples of milk powder and infant formulae (50) from different country factories and different production lots were tested. Contents of AFM1 was determined using direct enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The sample were tested also for the appearance of toxinogenic strains from A. flavus species. The presence of AFM1 in amount from 3,1 to 8,6 ng/kg was stated in 10 samples. One sample was infected by A. flavus mould, which did not exhibit toxinogenic properties on Czapek’s agar. Detection of AFM1 in the most of infant formulae with starch addition supposes that starch can cause false positive reaction in ELISA method.
