Assessment of the content of iron, zinc and copper in the daily food diets in selected groups of population

Abstract

The aim of this study was to assess the content of Fe, Zn and Cu in the daily food diets (DFR) of children at school age and elderly persons. The study was carried out in May and November 2000 in Orphanage and Social Welfare Houses from Northen Wielkopolska region. The dietary Zn content was too low in elderly people, while the Cu content was deficient in both groups. It was found that the intake of Fe covered recommended norms in both studied groups. No seasonal differences in the content of Fe, Zn and Cu in the daily food diets were observed.
