Title

Oleic acid as a hydrophobic carbon source in biosynthesis of surface active compounds by Candida bombicola yeast

Abstract

Candida bombicola ATCC 22214 produced glycolipids up to 85 g/1 using glucose and oleic acid in culture. It was profoundly also influenced by the concentration of nitrogen sources (yeast extract, ammonium chloride, hydrogen phosphate ammonium). A high concentration of biosurfactants was obtained when the initial medium consisted of 10% glucose, 1% oleic acid, and only 0,5% yeast extract. The best surface active yield was obtained after continues glucose and oleic acid addition during cultivation in quantity 14,4 g/l/day and 10 g/l/day respectively. Composition of glycolipids was characterized by TLC.
