Abstract
For a long period, the status of regional food specialities in Slovakia was very special and, for some reasons, controversial. However, the food industry in Slovakia underwent a very complicated development during the recent decade. The current tendency in the branch of food industry is to return to a low quantity production of food products that are typical regional specialities. In this paper, the authors analyse possible trends in this field, as they might be useful and applicable when viewed in the perspective of the Slovakia’s becoming a member of the European Union. As soon as Slovakia becomes a member of the European Union, the EU legislation is implemented, thus, the production development and distribution of regional specialties might deal with several risks. In this paper, its authors present such hazard.
