Background. The increasing consumption of beverages, particularly sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs), contributes to excess energy intake and the development of diet-related diseases among adolescents. Reliable tools for assessing beverage intake in this population are therefore essential. The aim of this study was to evaluate the reliability and preliminary psychometric properties of the Polish version of the Beverage Intake Questionnaire (BEVQ-PL).
Results and conclusions. The BEVQ-PL demonstrated moderate to good test–retest reliability for most beverage categories and global indicators. Spearman’s correlations ranged from 0.17 to 0.71, with the highest values being observed for total energy intake from beverages. Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) indicated moderate agreement for commonly consumed beverages, but lower reproducibility for infrequently consumed categories. Bland–Altman analysis revealed a small systematic bias with wide limits of agreement at the individual level. An exploratory factor analysis supported a three-factor structure (milk/coffee–protein beverages, alcohol, juices/soft drinks) with acceptable temporal stability. Internal consistency was low (α = 0.393), reflecting the multidimensional nature of the instrument. Overall, the findings support the use of BEVQ-PL as a preliminarily validated instrument for assessing beverage intake among Polish adolescents at the group level.
